Course Overview
Grounded in years of research, this practical four hour eLearning will give Support Workers more confidence in fostering social inclusion for people with an intellectual disability – an essential part of life.
Why take this course?
Everyone has the right to feel included. But there’s a huge amount of research that shows people with intellectual disabilities experience extreme forms of social exclusion. And, to no surprise, social exclusion has a long list of disadvantages: financial struggles, feelings of loneliness, limited access to community resources (like education and recreation), or having no ‘voice’ over the decisions that affect their life.
On a more positive note – studies also show that disability support workers can play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to be more socially included. Done well, support workers can create environments where individuals feel a sense of belonging and have more opportunities and choices in life.
This four hour eLearning is for you, the Support Worker, to understand the role you play in supporting social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. Grounded in the Principles of Person Centred Active Support and backed by research from La Trobe University, this course will equip you with the tools and strategies to promote social inclusion and make a meaningful difference.
