Why take this course?

You’ve probably heard by now – the new NDIS Act shifts the focus from disability diagnoses to ‘NDIS-eligible impairments’ based on six impairment categories: intellectual, cognitive, sensory, neurological, physical, and psychosocial.

But here’s where it gets tricky: just as funding going INTO the Plan will be based on these impairment categories, supports being purchased FROM the Plan must also be linked to impairment(s). That is, supports must be clearly tied to a participants' NDIS-eligible impairment category. And the rollout timeline and process for giving participants this crucial impairment-related information is messy. So once again, it’s time for providers to adapt.

This hands-on 2 hour workshop will dive into how to map and articulate the supports needed, based on specific impairments in the new NDIS framework. It’ll also help providers create connections between services delivered and the person’s NDIS-eligible impairments. You’ll leave with the skills and confidence to stay compliant, support participants in negotiating funding, and design supports the NDIS will cover — all while ensuring you get paid for the services you provide.

What you’ll gain

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to…

  • Explain the significance of the new focus on impairments in the NDIS framework and its impact on support planning & delivery

  • Identify the six categories of impairments relevant to NDIS eligibility and support needs

  • Understand how the NDIS currently maps disability diagnosis to impairment

  • Map specific impairments to the corresponding functional domains, as outlined in the NDIS Act

  • Articulate the functional impact of impairments on a participant’s daily life

  • Correlate a person’s support needs based on identified impairments and their functional impacts

  • Be ready to respond to Payment Integrity queries about linking supports delivered with impairments

  • Prepare for plan reassessments with a clear mapping of impairments to supports

  • Communicate with participants about why these changes are required

Rob Woolley

Our very own Woolly Mammoth, pulls up last in the alphabetical rankings but always gets a place on the DSC podium for combining curiosity with smarts. He knows so much about the NDIS it is scary. Rob lives a personal commitment to sharing his knowledge with an endgame of people with disability in control. Combining lived experience of the early childhood intervention pathway with professional experience of the realities of provider life - he has consistently shown the inability to hold down a real job. His roles in the disability sector have covered direct support work, project management, business development, consulting, ILC-funded advocacy roles and owner-operator of a registered and then unregistered provider (but the thing he is best at is being a very present dad). If you want a consultant or trainer in your corner you will be looking high and low to do better than our Rob.
